Wonderful Wednesday, November 25, 2015

This morning we worked on two rounds of Daily 5 and Mrs. Zwack, Mr. Demman and Miss Gordon worked with Guided Reading groups.  We are moving everyone along with their reading and are teaching a number of specific strategies to all students.  These are then readdressed through our guided reading and personal reading in class.  Today, Mr Demman taught a focus lesson on how we adjust our reading rate based on the text.  Please ask your child to demonstrate this strategy for you when doing their home reading this week!

After read aloud and snack we practiced our word work by doing a Blind Sort with our words.  This is where we quiz a partner on 10 words from their envelope as a quick self check of where each child is at.  Please take some time tonight and tomorrow to review all of your words to prepare for our final check up on Friday!

Our afternoon was not a usual Wednesday.  We started off the afternoon with music because we couldn't have it yesterday due to our Backwards Tuesday.  From music, we went to the gym for a Little Spirit Bear Presentation.  This was a great lesson on the the different qualities of the animals from the First Nation Culture.

After the presentation we had our snack and listened to Wonder.

For our science inquiry, we met with our friends from Room 82.  Today we discussed the difference between needs, wants, and rights.  We looked at 20 cards and had to sort them.  We had some great discussions about the differences between rights and needs.  Mr. Demman, Mrs. Quilley and I were so impressed about what great discussions the students had in their small groups.  Great job everyone!

Like usual our day ended too quickly!

Things to Remember:

1.)  Families Helping Families - please email Mrs. Bowles tabowles@cbe.ab.ca or Mrs. Zwack ajzwack@cbe.ab.ca
- currently we have not had anymore donations in our class.
2.)  Students were given a log in card for home for their KidBlog
3.)  Friday - Community Walk - please make sure that you have appropriate clothing for the weather

Question of the Day:

Today we identified 20 items to take to Mars, what four other items would you take to Mars?  Please be thoughtful about your choices as space is very limited for space travel.

  3. I would take food every diffrent tipe of food and it dosnt matter what it is. A note book that has thing that you need to know. Walkie talkies that connect to the space stashen. Seeds that can grow with out water so if I run out of food I can grow some and plants so if the air isent fresh we would have thing that is fresh.
