This morning we finished up our Word Work groups and now everyone has a set of words to work with for the next week and a half. There are a number of activities we will complete here at school before a sampling of the word patters are checked next Friday. A copy of the word sort has been sent home with your child. This is not meant to be a drill and practice activity!! Students have been told to do a sort of their words each night to review and learn the spelling patterns. It should only take 5 minutes or so each night. Students can go to spellingcity.com to play the free games available there. They know how to do this as we have practiced in class. They begin by typing their words into the list on the main screen and then clicking the TEST button. This will take them to the test page, which they will not actually do, but will scroll down on that screen to the Play a Game button.
It was great to be back in class with everyone. Today was a mixed up day with a number of changes and things to get finished.
We had a TON of things to hand out to everyone today. Please make sure to share everything that you are bringing home with your parents. The list of everything will be in the Things to Remember.
We had a special visit from the author, Tyler Enfield. He talked about the choices we make in our lives. He has written two books: Wrush: The Secret Worlds of Tabetha Bright (Volume One) and Wrush: Tabetha's Last Task (Volume Two).
When we returned from the author we had a quick snack and read some more of Wonder. Currently, we are reading from the Point of View of Via, Auggie's sister.

We talked about how reading the blog and answering the question of the day is part of student homework. It is a great way to do some daily reading and writing. Today those who read and answered the blog got a special treat.
Off to gym we went. We were working on using objects to push. Today we worked in pairs and used the scooters. We looked at safety of pushing others on the scooters and how to stay in control of the scooter. We then added a large "Q-Tip" and a ball. This made guiding the scooter and controlling pushing the ball a little more difficult. We then played a relay race to use all of the skills that we learned.
After gym, we had finished the Monster House movie that we had started for our Halloween Celebration.
Finally before sometime we had a discussion about the #choosekind movement that has been started from the book Wonder. We talked about creating a buddy bench for the Peace Wing Learning Commons. This will be apart of a bigger project that we will talk about later. The students felt that this was a great idea and started talking about how we could raise money and create the bench. We will continue to discuss this over the next couple of days.
1.) Artworks order are due tomorrow - November 4th
2.) Grade Four students received a pamphlet about free ski passes
3.) Simple Simon Pie Fundraiser order forms went home today
4.) Intramurals - those students who want to join the intramural club were given forms that must be returned tomorrow
5.) Tech Squad - two students were chosen from our class who wanted to join this club. Those forms went home today.
6.) Tyler Enfield book orders - those students who were interested in ordering autographed books were given order forms. Please have them returned by Friday.
Think about how we as students could raise money for an indoor Buddy Bench. What project could students do (not their parents) to raise money to purchase a bench?
I think we could raise money by people could do a bottle drive at the school for students to bring in all the bottles or just some they have at home. Another idea is we could do a bake sale at home or at school students could bake there own food for other people to eat!

I think we could do something when students bring in old toys and give them to someone else who does not have many toys or we could do an art project like Tanga but only our class does it

How much is a buddy bench?
ReplyDeleteShovelling people's drive ways
I think we could find things we don't want anymore and sell them. Clothes that don't fit anymore and our parents say it's okay to sell them.

ReplyDeleteWe could raise money by making a bake sale or a lemonade stand
emily or selling clothes
ReplyDeleteMake a special art project and sell it.
ReplyDeleteI could shovel my friends and my neighbour's driveways and I could bring in some of my allowance to help out. -ANDREA -
ReplyDeleteI would say we could do a lemonade stand or a bake sale, or both. We could also go around our neighborhood & collect cans & bottles for a bottle drive.
ReplyDeleteAnother idea is a craft or art sale at a Christmas market.
We could also do extra chores for allowance & each donate some of our own allowance money to use towards the buddy bench.

I think we should bake sale, or another idea is we could collect trash or recycling
ReplyDeleteto make interesting crafts .We could &collect cans &bottles for a bottle dive and so kid parent to get it to the bottle drive we could do a run like terry fox
and we could help neighbours out with their lawn their house
and we could help people by doing a fun active just for fun we could help also by cleaning or dusting our home to make money
