Welcome to Our Backward Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Hello Everyone,

Today was flipped. Mrs. Bowles taught in the morning and Mrs. Zwack taught in the afternoon.

We started off our morning being apart of Spark.  We worked hard at working hard.  We played a number of tag games and were able to get our heart rate up. There was a lot of sweat happening during the class.

When we returned to class we moved into our math groups.  In Mrs. Bowles' group we continued our work on increasing patterns.  We then looked at the hundred chart and some of the patterns that are found in it.  From there we talked about pattern rules and identifying the pattern rules.  Mrs. Bowles gave us a problem where we tried to solve it

A pattern begins like this:   2, 6, …
How might it continue?
We will be sharing our thoughts and our ideas tomorrow.
With Mr. Demman we practiced how to describe math patterns verbally as well as expressing those ideas in words.  We used the ideas from our hundreds chart and transferred them into a drum machine app so that we could see them and hear them.  Using the vocabulary from our lessons we created descriptive sentences including terms such as: pattern rule, increasing, decreasing, repeating, rows, columns, diagonal and layers.

In our science inquiry, we worked on our own as Mrs. Quilley's class was on a field trip. We reviewed how to take notes from books. We also worked on making sure that everyone could get into KidBlog so that we can share our learning in the blog.
Mrs. Bowles is in the process of making login cards for all of the students.  To get to the blog you need to go to
This afternoon we had our morning routine!  Mrs. Zwack was very impressed with all of the students' ability to manage the change.  We did two rounds of Daily 5 and then met with Mrs Peterson's class to read the book Imagine a World.  This book challenged us to think of the infinite possibilities for a world we would like to live in.  After reading, we came up with our own Imagine a world . . . ideas.  The students came up with very thoughtful responses.   We discussed the difference between NEEDS and WANTS and how many of their ideas focused on things that are necessary for survival on the planet we share.

In PE we played floor hockey and Mr. Mcdougall kept our heart rates up with lots of play time.  When we returned to class we took the last 20 minutes to work on our storytelling to prepare for Mr. Stockton's return on Thursday.  We did a 3,2,1 practice!  This meant to tell the story 3 times to yourself, 2 times to the wall and 1 time to a partner.  We had three brave souls who stood up to their "Whoosh!" and told their events to the whole class.  Well done Duncan, Isabel and Miller!
