We had a busy and productive morning in room 80! We worked very hard on various Daily 5
activities including sorting and recording our new word work lists, several
groups doing Guided Reading and spending some time preparing our story boards
for Jeff Stockton’s visit tomorrow. We
are very excited to see and hear what he will teach us about storytelling!
Today was very exciting as we started to learn French with
Mrs. Kenna! She will be working with our
class once a week to build our French speaking and listening skills. Students,
be sure to share what you learned today with your parents.
All students should now have new words to work on at home
for their new spelling patterns. Please
remind your child to review the patterns for a few minutes each night. Using colored pencils, they can mark on the
word cards any tricky letter combinations by underlining or highlighting. Spellingcity.com is a great way to practice
as well.
A huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Kuca for coming in as our guest speaker today for our science inquiry. She is a paleontologist and helped us understand a number of questions and wonders we had about our big question, "Is there a dinosaur in my gas tank?" Our students were very thoughtful with their questions and we all learned a lot. I believe we will be able to complete our final written project now we have all of the facts.
We were so excited after the presentation that we needed time to talk about all that we learned.
After our Nutrition Break, we broke into two math groups to learn about Patterns. We worked on two different ideas: repeating patterns and patterns found in a calendar. Everyone got down to work and we will use what we learned today towards understanding pattern problems.
In dance we continued our work on Swing. This was a lot of fun and we learned how to combine a number of steps into a dance pattern. Look patterns are everywhere we turn.
1.) Retake pictures will go home and need to be returned asap
2.) There will be no school on Friday - Non-Instructional Day
Share two new things that you learned today from our guest scientist.
That the energy in oil originally came from the sun. - Lexi

ReplyDeleteThe head of a dinosaur can tell you if it is a real dinosaur because it will have two holes behind its ears. And that you do not have a dinosaur in your gas tank It is actually plankton.
ReplyDeleteSorry forgot to put my name -ANDREA
ReplyDeleteI liked that we got to learn what oil sands are really made out of. They are not dinosaurs. They are made of plankton. ISABEL
ReplyDeleteI learned that oil comes from plankton and not dinosaurs, and humans can be made into oil but that it would only be a tiny drop. I liked seeing all of the fossils.

I learned
ReplyDelete1. I know it's a dinosaur if it has 2 holes behind it's ears
2.that oil comes from plankton and not a dinosaurs.
Jared
I learned that there was special plankton inside the oil sands, that the longest they would live was for about 3 days. Before they form the oil sands, lots of them die at the same time & they go to the bottom of the ocean & that is how they form oil. After a long time, sand compresses over the dead plankton & that forms the oil sands. Humans bones & chemicals can be made into oil over a long period of time, but only form a very small amount.
