This morning we had the opportunity to apply our spelling words using the free application Spelling City where we could practice our knowledge of spelling patterns. If you visit Spelling City on your computer, you can also try it at home. There are many free activities where you can review your words using some fun and interactive games. Next week we will begin our word work groups which will address the needs of each student.
We also worked on our good copy of our Picasso Portraits which will come home on Wednesday so parents can place their orders for the Original Artworks fundraiser. They look amazing and the students have had fun working on them. Thanks to Mrs. Bowles for coming up with the great idea!
Wow what a mathematical afternoon! Kartik took the attendance this afternoon and
was able to remember everyone’s number.
The students had to be on their toes to know who he was calling. Way to go Kartik.
We looked at different ways to sort numbers today. We sorted them into two groups and identified
the sorting rule. Then we used a venn diagram to sort them a different way.
We learned a new game to add to our Math With Somebody
board. It is called Line Er’ Up it is a game where we used dominos and had to create
three numbers in the thousands and make sure they were in order from least to
greatest. We really had to use logic to
make sure that we could keep them in order.
We continued to read Wonder.
It is interesting because
they are at the same point in the year as we are. They are just getting ready for Halloween,
which is Auggie’s favourite time of the year.
While we were reading there was a fire drill. We were amazing. I believe we were the
quietest class out there who listened very well to all the safety
directions. Way to GO!
We had a few minutes before gym to work on our science
inquiry. In small groups we were reading
an article about oil refining. We had to
highlight important information and share it with the group. We continued this after gym.
In gym today it was all about cooperation. We played Rock,Paper Scissors Tag and PacMan
Tag to get our hearts and lungs working.
We used the parachute to work
together to get the balls to race around the parachute, keep the balls on the parachute
and bounce others off. We made mushrooms
and traded shoes under the parachute. We
finished off with three laps around the gym before going back to class.
1.) Tomorrow is
Orange, Black, Green Day – please wear some of these colours.
2.) Picture Orders
are due October 28th
3.) Cranston Peace Ambassadors
will be starting a drive for Jacket Racket beginning Monday, October
26th and running to Friday, November 6th. This is a wonderful
opportunity for all students to help other children here in our city, by
donating warm outerwear that they no longer need. It is a valuable experience
for our students and reinforces Cranston School’s commitment to peace and
citizenship education. Please take some time with your children to go through
their winter items. It is that time of year when we all realize that hats,
mittens, boots, snow pants and coats have been outgrown! Please give them a
wash and put them in a plastic bag to be brought to school. If you could list
the items and sizes on the outside of the bag, it would help the students with
the sorting process! We also accept adult sizes, as many older students need
help to stay warm in the winter as well!
Write down ten numbers and sort them into two groups – write
your sorting rule.
