This morning we worked on our Words Their Way and Reading to
Self in Daily 5. Mrs. Zwack was also
working with students to assess their reading.
Have our students ever improved!!
It is also nice to see the increasing independence in the classroom. After so many disruptions the past few weeks,
this is great to see!
We had an early snack and body break today because we had a
special visitor! Mrs. Numan came to
visit with rooms 79 and 80! She talked
with us about making the transition to both R.T. Alderman and also to the new
middle school when it is ready. Everyone
had a chance to ask questions or voice their worries and if they wanted
to. If they were not comfortable doing
this in front of others, they could write their thoughts on a special paper and
deposit it in a box in the office. We
enjoyed the story that she read about worries and how to manage them! I think that the students enjoyed her visit
and most seem to be looking forward to their new adventure. We continue to work these conversations into
our day as it is appropriate. We are
focusing on being flexible, adaptive and showing a growth mindset!!
We wrapped up our morning with some time finishing our
Visual Journal pages for Follow the Elephant!
This afternoon we started to learn about fractions. Today we focused on fractions of a group. We looked at our class to decide the fraction of girls in our class, boys in our class. We also looked at how this compared to half. We read the book Full House: An Invitation to Fractions ~ by Dayle Ann Dodds.
Today was our last Good Guy/Girl Power session. In Good Guys we completed our creative journal pages and looked at all the great things that we have learned from each other. We focused on the importance of Real You. We learned to embrace those things you cannot change and love yourself for who you are. We will tray and share what we have learned in IRIS with you.
We found this new song that makes us believe in ourselves and be happy. Take a listen and we bet you have to start dancing to it.

1.) Change for Change for Fort McMurray – Mrs. Tuli will be in the Hub collecting change to donate to the Red Cross to support Fort McMurray. This is completely optional, but please talk to your classes about what is going on, why we donate, and how every little bit helps. Might even be a good idea to do things around the house to earn the change.
2.) The EcoTeam is excited to invite you to our next event, to inaugurate our garden beds, on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 1:00 pm. We plan to plant the plants, and water the garden. We invite families, and members of the community, to join us. We thank The Calgary Foundation Neighbour Grants for this opportunity to see our wish, of growing vegetables to serve the community, come alive! Please let Ms. Goldberg know if you are able to attend or lend a hand in any way – amgoldberg@cbe.ab.ca. Bring a hand shovel and a small watering can, if you have one! The event will probably last only 1 hour, or so, so please arrive on time!

Today's question is:
Look at your family. Write as many fractions as you can to describe your family. For example:
In my family 2/4 of the members are girls. 2/4 equals one half. 3/4 of my family played hockey. 3/4 of my family has gone to university. 1/4 of my family hates mushrooms. 1/4 of my family cheers for the Edmonton Oilers. 1/4 of my family is missing from this picture. Can you guess which one?
2/4 has hazel eyes. 2/4 has blue eyes 4/4 likes Edmonton oilers. 1/4 plays soccer.
