This afternoon Mrs. Bowles struggled to be heard again... the voice doesn't seem to want to come back. That's okay as you all helped by being quiet and good listeners in math.
Today we used base ten blocks to figure out how to divide 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by 1 - digit numbers. One student... not to be named.... Andrea... kept saying this isn't very efficient. So we also worked on how to make the process more efficient. We tried repeated subtraction but that doesn't work very well when you have 135 ÷ 5. It would take us forever!!! We also looked at how when we draw a box and then find out the greatest factors of 10 or which factors we know can add up to find the quotient (the answer to a division question) This worked pretty well! We will continue to work on this for the next few days.
Mrs. Bowles also showed us a few tricks to know which numbers can be divided by 1 - all of them, 2 - even numbers, 3 - all numbers who's digits add up to 9, 5 - numbers that end in a 0 or a 5, and 10 - numbers that end in a zero. This will help us estimate quotients.
We continued to read Auggie and Me. It was a little difficult to read as it was written in text language... LOL, gr8, brb, etc.
We had a Annie singing practice today. Thank you to everyone who is working so hard on being good listeners to Mrs. McBride.
In gym today we were outside enjoying the nice warm weather. We did lots of running and tagging and playing games. Mrs. Bowles an Mrs. Peterson are also watching us to see our teamwork skills, building our stamina and following directions.
1.) Annie Photo Update
Upon further investing of our contract, it appears we DO HAVE PERMISSION to take non-flash still photos. We DO NOT under any circumstances, have permisson to record video / audio.
2.) May 4th - Hats on for Mental Health - students are encouraged to wear their favourite hat on Wednesday in support of Mental Health
3.) We will be outside this week for PE, the weather is supposed to be quite warm so please be prepared, hats, sunscreen and water might be a good idea.
